Campbell Nyakudya, a former Zimbabwe Under-18 rugby player, has been charged with drugging, raping, and robbing a 25-year-old socialite after a night out in Harare. Nyakudya, who was part of the national team, appeared before Harare magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa facing charges of rap3 and theft. He was granted US$200 bail pending trial.
According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on October 25 when the complainant went out with friends to La Parada Restaurant and later to Karma Night Club. While at the club, the complainant visited the bathroom, and upon returning, found her friends had left. Nyakudya was standing at her table with an unknown woman. She resumed drinking from her glass while looking for her companions, but soon lost consciousness.
After being dumped, the complainant discovered she was missing her handbag, iPhone 14 Pro Max, US$1,200 in cash, and her wig. Bystanders told her she had been pushed out of a moving vehicle, but they were unable to capture the car’s registration number. Nyakudya was arrested on October 28 and appeared in court, where he was granted bail .
The case has sparked widespread attention, with many calling for justice for the victim. Nyakudya’s trial is ongoing, and the court will determine his fate based on the evidence presented .
