Temba Mliswa’s House Destroyed in Suspected Arson Attack

Temba Mliswa, a prominent Zimbabwean politician and outspoken critic of government corruption, has confirmed that his house in Shurugwi was destroyed in a suspected arson attack by unknown assailants. Mliswa shared the distressing news on his X (formerly Twitter) account, highlighting the politically charged nature of the attack.

In his post, Mliswa wrote: “I have always known that corruption fights back and am prepared for everything. Last night they sneaked and burnt my house in Shurugwi all because I asked for accountability and transparency. Thank God no one was hurt. Mapisa Nyadzonia!” His statement underscores his belief that the attack was retaliatory, a consequence of his vocal stance against corruption and his demand for greater transparency in governance.

Temba Mliswa has long been recognized as a fierce advocate for accountability in Zimbabwe’s political landscape. Serving as a Member of Parliament and having held various influential roles, Mliswa has frequently challenged corruption within government structures, often drawing criticism and opposition from powerful interests.

The incident adds to a worrying pattern of intimidation and violence faced by activists and politicians in Zimbabwe who confront entrenched corruption. Arson attacks have historically been used as a tactic to silence dissent and instill fear among critics.

Authorities have yet to announce any suspects or make public statements regarding the investigation into the fire. Local community members expressed shock and concern over the brazen nature of the attack. Fortunately, Mliswa confirmed that no one was harmed during the incident.

The phrase “Mapisa Nyadzonia” used by Mliswa in his post is widely interpreted as a call for divine justice and vigilance, referencing a historical liberation struggle context in Zimbabwe.

Mliswa’s resolve remains undeterred, as he continues his fight for accountable leadership and governance reforms in Zimbabwe. The incident has drawn condemnation from various civil society groups and human rights organizations, who are calling for a thorough and transparent investigation into the attack .end //..
