Paris Saint-Germain have requested that their Ligue 1 match against Lens be postponed as the club prepares for a crucial Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool.
The French champions are scheduled to face Lens on **Saturday, 11 April**, in what is expected to be a major title race encounter. However, the fixture falls directly between the two legs of PSG’s Champions League clash with Liverpool.
PSG will host Liverpool in the first leg in Paris before travelling to **Anfield** three days later for the decisive return leg. The tight schedule has prompted the club to ask the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) to move the domestic match to a later date.
Lens, who are currently second in the Ligue 1 standings and just one point behind PSG, have strongly opposed the request. In a statement, the club warned that moving the fixture would send the wrong message about the importance of the domestic league.
The club argued that Ligue 1 should not be treated as secondary to European competitions and stressed that the integrity of the league must be respected.
PSG, however, defended their position, stating that similar adjustments have been made in the past to support French teams competing in European tournaments. A spokesperson for the Paris club said success in European competitions benefits French football overall, particularly in improving the country’s UEFA coefficient ranking.
The final decision now rests with the **Ligue de Football Professionnel**, which has indicated it generally tries to support French clubs involved in European matches.
In a similar situation, Strasbourg have also reportedly asked for their league fixture against Brest to be postponed because it falls between their Conference League games against Mainz.
