Parirenyatwa grifters make a k!II!ng profit from grieving families

A deadly closely-knit syndicate of scoundrel doctors, nurses, mortuary attendants and unregistered funeral parlours  are running an underground operation of a death-for-profit scam at Parirenyatwa and Sally Mugabe Central hospitals

The shameful underground operation was exposed today on X formerly known as twitter by crimewatchzim

Grieving families are being misled into paying  high fees (around US$150 and US$200) to shady funeral homes under the pretence that their loved ones’ bodies are being taken off-site, when in fact, the bodies never leave the  mortuary.

In return, hospital staff collect under-the-table kickbacks.

An undercover investigation by Check Point has unearthed a disturbing scheme involving medical staff at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, mortuary attendants and unregistered funeral parlours.

The cartel targets patients who die before being formally admitted into the hospital system — particularly those without funeral insurance or cover from established funeral homes.

This is how the system works:

1. Patient De#th Before Admission: A person d!es before being officially admitted to the hospital.

2. Family Misled: Mortuary staff tell the grieving family the hospital mortuary is full and cannot accept the body.

3. Referral to Funeral Parlour: The family is quickly referred to a specific, usually unregistered, funeral parlour parked outside the hospital.

4. Body Collected: The parlour collects the body in a makeshift hearse, claiming it will be taken to their facility.

5. Body Never Leaves Hospital: Instead of going to a separate location, the hearse re-enters the hospital through a back entrance and delivers the body to the same hospital mortuary.

6. Kickbacks Paid: Hospital mortuary staff receive cash bribes from the funeral parlour in exchange for using the hospital’s mortuary services at a low cost.

7. Paperwork Processed Normally: All documentation is processed through the hospital, making the process appear legitimate.

8. Family Unaware: The family believes their loved one was taken to an external funeral home, not knowing the body remained in the hospital the entire time.
