Now or Never for Arsenal as Rivals Collapse and Title Door Swings Wide Open

Arsenal may have walked away from Nottingham Forest frustrated after another goalless draw, but the bigger picture suggests this Premier League season is shaping up as their clearest and most unforgiving chance to end a title drought stretching back more than two decades.

Despite dropping points, Mikel Arteta’s side emerged from the weekend even stronger at the summit, with their lead extended to seven points as every major challenger stumbled. While caution remains the public message from the Emirates, the reality is stark: opportunities like this do not come around often.

Manchester City, long viewed as Arsenal’s greatest obstacle, failed to apply pressure once again, suffering a derby defeat at Manchester United to stretch their winless run to four matches. Aston Villa, meanwhile, squandered the chance to climb above City after losing at home to an impressive Everton side, while reigning champions Liverpool continue to unravel, now sitting 14 points adrift after being held by Burnley at Anfield.

Arsenal’s recent lack of goals has sparked debate, with back-to-back scoreless draws raising questions about attacking sharpness. However, their defensive solidity remains unmatched in the league, and with rivals unable to build momentum, the Gunners remain firmly in control of their own destiny.

History warns that big leads can evaporate in the Premier League, but none of the chasing pack currently look capable of delivering the consistency required to mount a serious title charge. City appear vulnerable, Liverpool are faltering, and Villa, despite an excellent season, lack the depth to sustain a genuine push.

At Villa Park, Unai Emery cut a subdued figure after his side’s home defeat ended an 11-game winning run, openly acknowledging that other teams possess greater title-winning potential. Everton’s victory was fully deserved, capitalising on rare defensive lapses and exposing Villa’s growing need for added firepower.

For Arsenal, the message from the weekend is unmistakable. They have spent recent seasons flirting with the title, finishing runners-up three years in a row. This time, the landscape has shifted decisively in their favour.

With a balanced, deep squad built on an elite defence and rivals repeatedly dropping points, this feels like the moment Arteta’s project has been waiting for. Fail to seize it, and regret will linger far longer than the frustration of a single draw.

The door to the Premier League crown is no longer just open for Arsenal. It is theirs to walk through.
