Zimbabwean social media star and comedian Madam Boss has launched a US$500,000 defamation lawsuit against Harare socialite Apphia Nyasha Musabayana following a wave of damaging allegations circulated online.

The legal action arises from claims made on social media platforms in which Musabayana accused Madam Boss of engaging in extramarital relationships with several men, including a senior ruling party official. Madam Boss has strongly denied the allegations, describing them as false, malicious and intended to destroy her reputation and family life.

According to a letter written by Madam Boss’ lawyer, Admire Rubaya, the alleged harassment went beyond online posts. Musabayana is accused of calling Madam Boss’ husband, Ngoni Munetsiwa, in the early hours of the morning, repeating the allegations and allegedly demanding that Madam Boss end an alleged relationship with a man identified as Kelvin, also known as Apple Papi.

The lawyer further claims that Musabayana made threats, allegedly boasting of political and security connections and warning that Madam Boss could “disappear” if she failed to comply. These claims have reportedly left Madam Boss and her family fearing for their safety.

Rubaya accused Musabayana of acting with reckless disregard for the truth and deliberately seeking to damage Madam Boss’ marriage, reputation and career. He also alleged persistent harassment and stalking, saying Musabayana repeatedly took screenshots of Madam Boss’ social media posts and republished them with defamatory commentary to provoke public ridicule.

Musabayana has been given an opportunity to retract the statements and issue a public apology. Should she fail to do so, Madam Boss has indicated she will proceed with court action to recover damages amounting to US$500,000.

The case has sparked intense debate on social media, with many users condemning cyberbullying and expressing support for Madam Boss.
