A retired man from Guruve who was accused by his own relatives of practising kuromba rituals to fund the purchase of a truck has been completely cleared after a confessed serial killer revealed the truth behind a missing mother and her young child.
The pensioner became the subject of suspicion after buying a truck soon after retiring, a development that raised eyebrows within his family when a young woman and her toddler later went missing in the same community. Relatives reportedly struggled to explain how he had managed to acquire the vehicle, despite it being funded through his pension benefits.
The mystery surrounding the disappearance of 24-year-old Charity Karembera and her three-year-old son, Tendai, stretched for months after they were last seen in March 2025. During that time, the pensioner actively participated in search efforts, often using his truck to assist relatives and villagers combing nearby areas.
However, behind the scenes, some family members allegedly harboured suspicions that he had killed the pair as part of ritual practices meant to secure prosperity for his new business venture.
Those suspicions were shattered on 10 January 2026 when police, acting on a confession, escorted serial killer Anymore Zvitsva to remote hills in the Mavare area. Zvitsva directed officers to shallow graves where the remains of Charity and her son were buried, bringing a painful but decisive end to months of uncertainty.
The exhumation confirmed that the pensioner had no involvement in the killings, leaving relatives forced to confront the weight of their false accusations. Family members reportedly admitted that they had silently blamed him throughout the search, despite lacking any evidence.
Zvitsva’s confession not only cleared the pensioner’s name but also brought closure to a grieving family and a shaken community. Investigations into the serial killer’s full list of victims and motives are still ongoing.
