Wellington Masiiwa, also known as Nyokayemabhunu, a vocal critic of the Zimbabwean government, recently appeared in a South African court, sparking intense debate about the politicization of extradition proceedings. The court hearing was postponed to August 20 due to incomplete documentation. Masiiwa has been detained since April 13 for allegedly violating South Africa’s immigration laws. In a statement, he claimed that lawyers he didn’t know tried to represent him, allegedly as part of a plot to facilitate his extradition. He has since appointed a new spokesperson, General Sithole.
