Nhunzva Calls For Police Apology Over Alleged AI Content Claims

Police Call In Dr David Nhunzva Over Alleged AI Content Targeting ZRP

Social media figure David Nhunzva has demanded that the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) retract their recent statement and issue a public apology, saying allegations that he produced misleading AI-generated content are untrue and harmful to his reputation.

On Thursday, 25 December 2025, the ZRP released a statement requesting Nhunzva to present himself at the CID Law and Order unit in connection with claims that he created and shared deepfake material aimed at discrediting the police. Authorities said the alleged content contravened the Cyber and Data Protection Act (Chapter 12:07).

Among the videos cited by police are clips in which Nhunzva appears to be handing over ZRP-branded vehicles to individuals resembling senior officers, as well as another showing uniformed officers lying on the ground as he approaches.

Nhunzva has strongly denied the accusations, maintaining that he has broken no law. In a statement posted on social media, he said his videos were produced purely for creative and entertainment purposes and were never intended to mislead the public or damage the standing of the police.

He argued that the ZRP’s public allegations have caused serious harm to both his personal and professional standing, exposing him to unnecessary criticism and public suspicion.

Nhunzva is now calling on the police to formally withdraw the claims, issue a public apology acknowledging that the allegations are unfounded, and refrain from taking any further steps that violate his rights. He added that he remains committed to lawful creative expression and is prepared to pursue legal remedies to clear his name and seek redress.
