Fake Zimbabwean Nurse Jailed for £170,000 UK Fraud

A Zimbabwean man, Ashton Guramatunhu, has been sentenced to 40 months in a UK prison for posing as a registered nurse and raking in over £170,000. The 46-year-old used a legit nurse’s identity to land gigs at six care homes across northern England between 2015 and 2019.

Guramatunhu’s scam unraveled when the real nurse got a query from the Nursing and Midwifery Council about an incident at a facility he’d never worked at. Turns out, Guramatunhu was treating patients with… wait for it… Google diagnoses . Authorities confirmed he falsified qualifications and identity, putting innocent patients at risk “purely for his own financial gain,” said Detective Constable Naomi Sargent.

The court heard Guramatunhu attended university but his criminal record made him ineligible for care sector work. Now, he’s facing the music. “The sentence reflects the severity of his actions,” Sargent added, hoping it serves as a warning to others.

Guramatunhu’s patients might’ve dodged a bullet, but his bank account sure took a hit .
