Beitbridge Councillors Give Mayor the Boot Over Incompetence

In a shocking turn of events, Beitbridge Councillors have suspended Mayor Peter Pirato Mafuta over allegations of incompetence, dereliction of duty, and stalling capital projects.

The Councillors, mostly from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), passed a vote of no confidence in the Mayor, citing his inability to get things done. Apparently, he’s been MIA (missing in action) during crucial meetings, and the town’s water challenges have been ongoing since 2024. Not exactly the kind of leadership the town needs.

The Councillors pointed out several stalled projects, including the upgrading of Dulivhadzimu Bus Terminus, the acquisition of a grader, and the construction of a sewer trunk in new suburbs. It’s like they’re stuck in neutral, and the Mayor seems to be the one holding the brake.

The Mayor will remain suspended pending the Minister of Local Government and Public Works’ response. Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor John Manatsa will take over as Acting Mayor. Let’s hope he can bring some much-needed momentum to the town.

Can the new leadership turn things around, or will Beitbridge continue to stagnate?
