Two men lost their lives on Monday afternoon after mining explosives they were transporting detonated while they were travelling on a motorcycle near Chehanga in Chikuti, Hurungwe District, Mashonaland West Province.

Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, confirmed the fatal incident, saying investigations are underway to establish what triggered the explosion.

According to preliminary reports, the blast occurred while the pair were in transit, resulting in instant fatalities. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased as inquiries continue.

Police have urged members of the public, especially those involved in mining activities, to strictly follow laws and safety regulations governing the handling and transportation of explosives to prevent similar tragedies.

Further details are expected to be released as investigations progress.
