ZRP Clarifies No Police Chase in Fatal Tongogara Avenue Crash

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued an official clarification regarding a deadly road accident that took place on October 3, 2025, along Tongogara Avenue near the Blakiston Street junction. The collision involved an Isuzu D-Max and a Toyota Hiace kombi, tragically resulting in the death of the kombi driver.

In response to circulating social media rumors, the ZRP firmly denied claims that the kombi was involved in a high-speed police chase at the time of the crash. “For the record, no speed chase or clashes occurred between the kombi crew and the ZRP members who were driving a Police motorcycle,” the police stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Authorities confirmed that video and camcorder footage from the police team at the scene were thoroughly reviewed, verifying that no pursuit or confrontation took place prior to the accident.

The police also cautioned the public against spreading unverified information online, warning that false narratives could hinder ongoing investigations and cause unnecessary panic. “The ZRP warns Zimbabweans against using social media to spread false information or narratives,” the statement emphasized.

While the kombi driver was confirmed dead at the scene, details about other passengers and the exact cause of the collision remain under investigation by the authorities.
