Zimbabwe Police Hunt Activists Amid Claims of Unmarked Vehicle Abduction

Political activist Kudzai Saruwaka has alleged that Madzibaba Weshanduko was detained late last night by a group of men in unmarked vehicles, including two grey GD6s, two black GD6s, and a Mahindra pickup, with no police insignia or license plates. Saruwaka claims the men physically assaulted Weshanduko’s wife during the operation.

The incident follows a manhunt launched by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) targeting both Saruwaka and Weshanduko, though details of the charges remain unclear. Adding to the controversy, local car rental operator Tafadzwa Chidawa reportedly offered the ZRP vehicles to aid the search, according to Saruwaka.

The ZRP has not publicly commented on the arrest or confirmed the involvement of state actors. Weshanduko’s whereabouts are unknown, sparking concerns for his safety. Human rights groups are calling for transparency.

The family of Weshanduko is urging authorities to disclose his status. Saruwaka remains at large, vowing to challenge the crackdown.
