Wildlife Encounter Turns Deadly

A devastating incident occurred on Kazungula Road, near Victoria Falls, when a Toyota Isis collided with a sub-adult elephant. The impact was severe, causing the elephant to land on the car’s roof. Unfortunately, one passenger died, and five others were injured.

The driver allegedly overtook a stationary vehicle with hazard lights on and rammed into the elephant. The vehicle veered off the road, trapping occupants for over 30 minutes. Rangers had to shoot the injured elephant to remove it from the vehicle.

This tragic incident highlights the risks of animal and human encounters on roads leading to Victoria Falls. Elephants roam freely in unfenced forests, posing a threat to passing vehicles. Authorities often caution drivers to exercise caution when driving through these areas.

Drivers should be aware of their surroundings and reduce speed when driving through areas known to have wildlife. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible driving and respect for wildlife habitats.
