A 29-year-old Zimbabwean man has been remanded in custody in Botswana after allegedly defrauding job seekers through an international employment scam.
Evans Sivechere, the director of Diamond Migration (PTY) Ltd in Gaborone, was arrested on Sunday at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport following extensive police investigations. He appeared before the Village Magistrate Court on Tuesday, facing 11 counts of fraud.
According to the charge sheet, Sivechere is accused of deceiving 11 individuals between October last year and October 2025 by promising them lucrative job opportunities abroad. Victims reportedly paid between P240,000 and P400,000, believing the money would cover work permit processing and secure employment in countries such as Ireland, Finland, Greece, Poland, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, and Luxembourg.
Police say the victims submitted all the necessary documents and payments, only to discover later that the promised jobs did not exist.
Investigators also revealed that more charges could be added as inquiries continue. Sivechere has been remanded in prison and is expected back in court on December 1, 2025.
The Botswana Police Service has urged the public to exercise caution when dealing with migration and recruitment agencies and to verify legitimacy before making any payments.
