In a heartfelt tribute, businessman Sir Wicknell Chivhayo celebrated Sirizani Butau, a Zimbabwean hero who risked his life to save others from a deadly 2021 fuel tanker crash on the Harare-Mutare highway. The inferno, sparked by a collision involving 50,000 liters of petrol, threatened to explode but Butau bravely rushed into the flames, rescuing trapped passengers. He emerged with severe burns and permanent scars, yet his courage saved lives.
Chivhayo emphasized, “True heroes aren’t born in comfort, but in fire,” highlighting Butau’s bravery, which earned Zimbabwe’s Gold Cross Award from President Emmerson Mnangagwa. As a token of gratitude, Chivhayo gifted him a brand-new Toyota Fortuner, USD 50,000 cash to start a business (perhaps trucking, fitting his “steel-like courage”), and praise for embodying “love and compassion.” Chivhayo urged , “Go to Madzibaba Chipaga at Enterprise Car Sales this Monday to collect your reward.” The act underscores Butau’s legacy “Scars are medals of honor. Love still lives.”
Chivhayo concluded with a message to all: “Let’s love one another. We’re children of God,” urging compassion in a world needing it.
