Warning Issued Against Scammers Exploiting Kuwadzana Children’s Tragedy

Three Infants Found Dead in Mercedes Benz Boot

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued a stern warning against individuals exploiting the recent Kuwadzana Extension children’s tragedy to solicit fraudulent donations. Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi revealed that some individuals, including Josphine Mutongi, are mobilizing funds through mobile wallets, claiming the money will assist the victims’ families or support protests.

Nyathi condemned the scam, stating, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns criminals who are now taking advantage of the Kuwadzana children’s tragedy to mobilize the public to deposit or send money into EcoCash and InnBucks accounts owned or controlled by Josphine Mutongi, under the guise of assistance to the families, children’s missing body parts protest, and holding of an illegal demonstration or gathering.”

The police have dismissed circulating claims that the children’s bodies had been mutilated, citing no evidence to support these allegations. A full post-mortem is scheduled for October 6, 2025, in Harare, with results to be made public in consultation with the families.

The tragic discovery of the three young children’s bodies in the boot of a long-parked car in Kuwadzana Extension has sent shockwaves through the community. The victims were siblings Anenyasha Muzanangu (1) and Anopaishe Muzanangu (4), and their neighbor Raymond Mukudzeyi (3), who were last seen playing near a car park on October 1.

The police are urging the public to respect the privacy of the mourning families and allow investigations to proceed. Commissioner Nyathi warned that anyone or groups agitating for violence or illegal gatherings will face the law without fear or favor .
