Tragic Air Force Accident Claims Two Lives at Manyame Airbase

A devastating incident occurred on Tuesday at Manyame Airbase in Harare, Zimbabwe, where a trainer aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff, resulting in the deaths of two Air Force personnel. According to reports, the plane experienced engine failure around 12:15 PM, moments after leaving the runway, and crashed within the airbase perimeter.

The pilot died instantly at the scene, while the officer cadet on board succumbed to injuries at approximately 4 PM in the hospital. The Air Force of Zimbabwe has not yet officially confirmed the incident, but sources suggest that engine failure was the likely cause of the crash .

An investigation into the cause of the crash is expected to be launched, with the Air Force of Zimbabwe likely to provide further details in due course. This incident marks a tragic reminder of the risks involved in military aviation, and the importance of rigorous safety protocols.

In February 2025, a similar incident occurred when Air Lieutenant Nesbert Tambudza lost his life after a Karakorum-8 jet trainer aircraft crashed in Gweru. The Zimbabwe Defence Forces have experienced other fatal air crashes in the past, including incidents in 2021 and 2014, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and safety measures .
