Spain secured their first victory of the FIFA World Cup with a convincing 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia in Group H.
Teenage forward Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the 10th minute, finishing from close range after a cross from Mikel Oyarzabal. The goal marked a memorable milestone for the young attacker as he found the net in his first World Cup start.
Spain continued to dominate possession and attacking opportunities throughout the first half. Oyarzabal doubled the lead after Saudi Arabia failed to clear a corner before adding a second goal just minutes later to give his side a commanding advantage.
The European champions carried their momentum into the second half and extended their lead when a defensive clearance resulted in an own goal, making it 4-0 shortly after the restart.
Saudi Arabia struggled to create clear chances against a well-organized Spanish side and managed only limited opportunities in front of goal. Spain, meanwhile, controlled the match from start to finish and could have added further goals as they continued to create attacking openings.
The result moves Spain onto four points in Group H and strengthens their position in the race for qualification to the knockout stages. Saudi Arabia remain on one point and will need a positive result in their final group match to improve their chances of advancing.
Spain Show Their Quality
After drawing their opening match, Spain responded with an impressive display built on quick passing, high pressing and clinical finishing.
Yamal’s early goal helped settle the team, while Oyarzabal delivered one of the standout performances of the match with two goals and an assist. Spain’s attacking players consistently caused problems for the Saudi Arabian defence, creating numerous scoring opportunities throughout the contest.
The victory provides a confidence boost for Spain ahead of their next group-stage fixture as they look to continue their progress in the tournament.
