A devastating incident occurred at Pickstone Mine in Chegutu on May 27, 2025, resulting in the deaths of four artisanal miners. Another miner was injured and is currently receiving treatment at Chegutu Hospital.
According to reports, the miners were trapped in an open pit, and rescue efforts were undertaken to retrieve the bodies and the injured victim. The bodies have been taken to Chegutu Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
In unrelated incidents, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) made significant arrests in Beitbridge and Chiredzi.
Goodpower Faya (35) was arrested on May 26, 2025, at Dulibadzimu Rank for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs. Faya was found in possession of Crystal Meth.
Norman Gamuchirai (35) and Tafadzwa Mapondera (34) were arrested at the 117 km peg along Ngundu-Tanganda Road for unlawful possession of unregistered medicines. The suspects were found with large quantities of Astra Pain Syrup and Broncleer Cough Syrup in their vehicle.
The ZRP is commended for their efforts in maintaining law and order.
