Ministry Orders Reinstatement of Students Barred from Exams

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has directed Mafakela Primary School to immediately reinstate students who were barred from sitting their mid-term exams due to non-payment of a US$25 bus levy. The students’ tuition fees had been fully paid, but they were still denied access to the exams.

The issue came to light when a Grade Five pupil told her parent that she was blocked from taking the exams due to the unpaid transport fee. Instead of participating in the assessments, the affected students were sent to home economics classes, sparking frustration and concern among parents.

The Ministry’s intervention aims to resolve the situation and ensure that the students are not disadvantaged due to circumstances beyond their control. The directive emphasizes the importance of prioritizing students’ education and well-being.

The school is expected to comply with the Ministry’s order and allow the students to sit for their exams without further delay. The incident highlights the need for clear communication and fair treatment of students and parents in such matters.
