What many thought was impossible — or even risky — turned into one of Zimbabwe’s most memorable musical moments as Jah Prayzah and Winky D performed at the same event, proving that unity can outshine rivalry.
The highly anticipated New Year’s Eve One Big Party, held at Glamis Stadium in Harare, brought together the two music heavyweights in a show that some fans had dismissed as unrealistic, while others feared would spark tension or fan clashes. Instead, the night unfolded as a celebration of music, maturity and mutual respect.
Fans Choose Music Over Rivalry
Ahead of the event, speculation had been rife on social media, with talk of a “lyrical showdown” and concerns about crowd trouble. But once the music started, those fears quickly evaporated. Fans from both camps watched performances peacefully, cheering their favourites without incident.
Chipaz Promotions spokesperson Jack Dzambasa said organisers were impressed by the discipline shown by the crowd.
“We were surprised by how mature the fans were, considering all the noise before the show,” he said. “When Jah Prayzah performed first, Winky D’s supporters remained calm and respectful. No chaos, no disruptions — just music.”
Smooth Recovery After Technical Glitch
Dzambasa also praised Winky D’s fans for their restraint when a brief sound problem interrupted his performance.
“There was a moment when the sound wasn’t right, but the crowd stayed patient. Once it was fixed, the show continued smoothly. That alone showed how far our audiences have grown,” he said.
Supporting the Next Generation
Another highlight of the night was Kurai Makore’s closing performance. Despite taking the stage after two of the country’s biggest stars, he managed to keep the crowd engaged.
“Normally, the stadium would empty by then,” Dzambasa admitted. “But fans stayed on and supported him. That’s the kind of culture we want to see in Zimbabwean music.”
Artists Express Gratitude
Jah Prayzah took to social media on New Year’s Day to thank fans and organisers for a successful event, praising the smooth coordination and unity among performers.
Winky D also shared an emotional message, applauding his supporters — the Gafas — for their unwavering loyalty and describing their energy as central to the spirit of his performance. He extended appreciation to Jah Prayzah, Chipaz Promotions and fellow artists for contributing to a powerful crossover into 2026.
A Night That Redefined Local Showbiz
The event attracted fellow musicians, promoters and senior government officials, including Youth Empowerment Minister Tino Machakaire, adding further prestige to the occasion.
While comparisons between Jah Prayzah and Winky D persist, the Glamis Stadium concert made one thing clear: the two artists occupy different musical lanes, and pitting them against each other misses the point.
On this night, competition took a back seat — and music emerged as the true winner.
