Former opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has strongly condemned the new Broadcasting Services Amendment Act, which links motor insurance to possession of a valid ZBC radio licence. The law, signed into effect by President Mnangagwa, requires motorists to purchase a ZBC radio licence before renewing their vehicle licences.

 

Chamisa described the law as “too draconian, anti-citizens, and outrightly heartless,” questioning how citizens are expected to survive with the added financial burden. “A person who owns a car pays Zinara, ZBC, Insurance, and toll gate – how are people supposed to survive?” he asked.

 

Chamisa also questioned the rationale behind the law, asking why citizens should pay for a service they don’t use. “Why must I pay for partisan propaganda, where I am attacked in person and demonized from dawn to dusk?” he said, adding that the law amounts to “naked provocation.”

 

The former opposition leader’s comments highlight the growing concerns among citizens about the increasing financial burdens imposed by the government. As the government continues to introduce new laws and regulations, citizens are left wondering when the burden will end.
