Manchester United have announced the departure of head coach Ruben Amorim, bringing an end to his short but eventful spell at Old Trafford.
Amorim, who was appointed in November 2024, guided the Red Devils to the UEFA Europa League final in Bilbao in May, raising hopes of a revival despite an inconsistent domestic campaign.
However, with United currently sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s hierarchy has taken what it described as a reluctant decision to part ways with the Portuguese tactician. Senior figures believe a change at this stage offers the best chance of securing the highest possible league finish before the end of the season.
In a statement, the club expressed gratitude for Amorim’s efforts during his tenure and wished him success in his future endeavours.
Manchester United confirmed that former midfielder Darren Fletcher will step in on an interim basis and take charge of the team for Wednesday’s Premier League clash against Burnley.
Further announcements regarding the club’s long-term managerial plans are expected in due course.
