Another Lawsuit, Another Day: Fadzayi Mahere Sued for US$100K

Prominent Zimbabwean lawyer and politician Fadzayi Mahere is facing a new lawsuit from TinMac Motors, a company linked to Youth Minister Tinomudaishe Machakaire. The lawsuit, worth US$100,000, stems from social media posts made by Mahere alleging smuggling and corruption.

This is not the first time Mahere has been embroiled in a defamation lawsuit. She has been involved in several high-profile cases, including a recent one against writer and lawyer Petina Gappah, where Gappah was ordered to pay Mahere US$18,000 in damages.

The current lawsuit against Mahere is related to posts she made on her X account (formerly Twitter) between July 5 and July 7, 2025. TinMac Motors alleges that Mahere’s posts falsely implicated the company in criminal activities, including abuse of government duty-free facilities, tax evasion, and corruption.

Mahere’s lawyers, Diza Attorneys, have rejected all claims of wrongdoing and fired back with accusations of malicious defamation. They claim that Minister Machakaire posted a series of tweets accusing Mahere of corruption, racketeering, and fabricating her academic credentials.

The legal battle between Mahere and Machakaire is heating up, with both sides dug in and ready for a fight. Mahere’s lawyers have warned that any legal action pursued by Minister Machakaire will be met with robust defense and a demand for exemplary costs.
