Chris Rock Recently Opens Up About the Will Smith Slap

Chris Rock recently opened up about the inspiration behind writing _Selective Outrage_, revealing the incident that sparked it all: the moment Will Smith slapped him on live television. Chris shared on Twitter, explaining that although he initially felt like retaliating, he soon realized that Will was dealing with a lot personally. At the time, Will was still married to Jada Pinkett Smith, who had been unfaithful with a much younger man and was now dealing with hair loss. The joke Chris made touched a sensitive nerve, dredging up painful memories for Will.

Understanding this, Chris decided to step back from confrontation and instead turned the experience into creative fuel, developing _Selective Outrage_ as a way to process and profit from the event.

Will Smith responded to the tweet with a sharp comeback, reminding Chris to keep his wife’s name out of his remarks. He also challenged Chris, humorously suggesting they could settle things in a ring with a match called _Selective Beating_, where he’d show who really comes out on top.
