Fire Rages Through Makoni Rural District Council CEO’s Home

A devastating fire swept through the home of Engineer Edmore Chidembo, CEO of Makoni Rural District Council, on Thursday night, leaving the house in ashes. According to Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, Acting Police Spokesperson for Manicaland, the fire is believed to have been caused by a candle that was left lit in one of the bedrooms.

Luke Kunyaura, a security guard employed at the residence, recounted the harrowing experience. “I started my shift at 8pm, and when I noticed the fire in Gabriel Chidembo’s room, I sprang into action,” he said. Kunyaura managed to rescue Gabriel and a 27-year-old maid, Natsai Masenda, from the inferno.

The quick-thinking guard also called the fire brigade, which arrived promptly at 8:40pm. Although the firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, the damage was extensive, and no property was salvaged.

As investigations continue, authorities are looking into the possibility that the candle fell and ignited the bed, causing the fire.
