AC Milan have officially parted ways with head coach Sergio Conceicao after just six months at the helm, following a disappointing second half of the season that saw the Rossoneri fall short of both domestic and European ambitions.

Sergio Conceicao, 50, was handed the job last December after the the sacking of Paulo Fonseca and signed an 18-month deal. He arrived at San Siro with a strong reputation, having guided FC Porto to 11 trophies in six seasons and earning praise for his tactical acumen and leadership.

During his tenure in Milan began with early success – winning the Italian Super Cup just a week into the job. However, that initial momentum faded as the season progressed. Milan finished a disappointing eighth in Serie A, missing out on European competition for the upcoming season. A Coppa Italia final loss to Bologna added further frustration in what ultimately proved a season of unfulfilled potential.

The fading gaint released a statement thanking Conceicao and his staff.

“The club would like to thank Sergio and his staff for their commitment, professionalism and dedication in leading the team in recent months. The Rossoneri family bids farewell to the coach who contributed to the conquest of the 50th trophy in Milan’s history, wishing him the best for his future,” the statement read.

According to reports, former manager Massimiliano Allegri – who spent four years in charge at San Siro between 2010 and 2014 – is reportedly set, external for a return.
