A woman named Sibongile Dzvairo was arrested in Kadoma for kidnapping a two-year-old boy and claiming he was the biological child of her lover, a gold panner based in Kwekwe.
The child was taken from the care of Bridget Banda’s housemaid in early August. Bridget, a mother of three, had been desperately searching for her missing son until the maid identified Sibongile, leading to police intervention. The child was recovered in Kwekwe, reuniting Bridget with her son.
Sibongile confessed that she lied to her lover about the child’s parentage after being threatened. The lover had been financially supporting a child he never met for over two years. Sources say Sibongile is now held at Rimuka Police Station in Kadoma and will soon appear in court.
Inspector Ian Kohwera of Mashonaland West police was unavailable for comment, but authorities are treating the matter seriously given its unusual nature.
