University of Zimbabwe Lecturers Seek Court Intervention

The application highlights several concerns regarding academic irregularities, including inconsistent project marking, improper grade moderation, and inadequate teaching. Dr. Chamburuka warns that proceeding with the graduation ceremony under these circumstances would irreparably prejudice graduates whose qualifications may later be invalidated due to compromised processes. The University of Zimbabwe Students Union shares these concerns, stating that proceeding with graduation would damage the reputation of the university and the value of its degrees.

The Association of University Teachers is seeking a court order to halt graduation preparations until a full forensic audit of the 2024-2025 second semester is completed. They also want the university to commission an independent audit to investigate the allegations of academic irregularities and publish its findings before awarding any degrees. This move aims to ensure that academic standards are upheld and the integrity of the university’s degrees is maintained.
