A heartbreaking incident has occurred in Mafeha village, Bulilima District, Matabeleland South, where a 19-year-old boy lost his life in a brutal stabbing incident linked to a love-related dispute. Somandla Ngwenya from Malopa Village under Chief Madlambuzi was fatally attacked on Friday in a violent altercation involving three other young men.
According to eyewitnesses, the fight started over a girl, with one resident describing the horrifying scene: “One of them held the victim and stretched out his arms while another used a knife to stab him in the stomach and tear out his insides.” The police have confirmed the incident and identified the suspects as Mthabisi Ndlovu (22), Thapelo Sibanda (21), and Qhubani Mabhena (22), all from villages in the Madlambuzi area.
The police have made some progress in their investigation, arresting one suspect while another remains on the run. Tragically, the third suspect was found dead, believed to be a case of suicide. Inspector Chiratidzo Ngwenya has appealed for information to help locate the suspect still at large. The community is shaken and fearful, calling for increased police patrols and psychosocial support for those affected.
Residents are grappling with the tragedy, with one villager expressing sorrow: “Two young lives have been lost, one as a victim of violence, another through suicide. Our hearts are broken, not just for the families, but for the future of our community. We want justice and peace.”
