Four people lost their lives and 12 others sustained injuries after a passenger kombi overturned along the Bulawayo–Victoria Falls Road, police have confirmed.
Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the fatal accident occurred on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the 312-kilometre peg along the highway. A Nissan Caravan kombi carrying 16 passengers reportedly veered off the road before overturning and landing on its roof.
“Four people were killed while 12 others were injured in the accident,” said Comm Nyathi. “The bodies of the deceased were taken to Hwange Colliery Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while the injured were admitted to the same hospital for treatment.”
In a separate incident reported the same day, police discovered the body of an unidentified woman at the eight-kilometre peg along the Lion’s Den–Mhangura Road. Authorities suspect she may have been a victim of a hit-and-run accident.
Police said the woman was wearing a blue and grey striped T-shirt and red track bottoms at the time of her death. Her body was taken to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem as investigations continue.
The incidents add to growing concerns over road safety, particularly during the busy holiday travel period.
