The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has laid out a raft of serious charges against alleged Guruve serial killer Anymore Zvitsva, who is now facing 12 criminal counts linked to a string of violent crimes across Mashonaland Central.
In a statement, the NPA said Zvitsva (33), of Vheremu Village under Chief Chipuriro in Guruve, is charged with eight counts of murder, two counts of rape and two counts of attempted murder. The alleged offences were committed between April 2024 and December 2025 in Guruve, Nyakapupu, Mvurwi, Muzura Farm and surrounding areas.
Zvitsva, who was arrested on 3 January 2026 after a nationwide manhunt, has since appeared before the Harare Regional Magistrates’ Court.
According to prosecutors, the accused allegedly carried out violent home invasions using weapons that included snare wire, iron rods, knives, spears, machetes and poison. The attacks reportedly resulted in multiple deaths, with some incidents involving the killing of entire households.
The NPA further alleges that some victims were raped before being murdered, while others were dumped, hanged or buried in remote locations to conceal the crimes. One of the rape charges is said to involve an assault committed in the presence of minors, while another relates to a kidnapped victim who was allegedly raped while restrained on a mountain.
The attempted murder charges stem from incidents involving strangulation and stabbing, including an alleged attack on a shopkeeper who was left unconscious during a robbery.
Zvitsva was advised to apply for bail at the High Court and has been remanded in custody to 19 January 2026.
The NPA said it remains resolute in its mandate to protect communities from violent crime, adding that cases of such gravity will be pursued decisively to ensure justice for victims and safeguard public safety.
