A 23-year-old man from Iminyela, Bulawayo, has been sentenced to an effective 18 months in prison after being convicted of stealing broadcasting equipment belonging to the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC).

Elton Dalubuhle Ndlovu was convicted by the Tredgold Magistrates’ Court for theft from a motor vehicle after he unlawfully entered an unlocked ZBC Outside Broadcast van on 28 December 2025.

The court heard that between 1am and 7:30am, Ndlovu broke into the vehicle and stole a black satchel containing various broadcasting and electronic items. The stolen property included an Apple MacBook laptop, an HP Core i7 laptop, a Barix audio box, power cables, laptop chargers, a Wi-Fi router, a microphone connector, headphones and ethernet cables, all valued at US$5 138.

Ndlovu was arrested while attempting to sell some of the stolen items, leading to the recovery of all the equipment.

He was sentenced to 36 months in prison, with 18 months suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour, leaving him to serve an effective 18-month jail term.
