In a scandal that has left the Gokwe community both shocked and bewildered, a well-known spirit medium named Liberty Marariromba, also known as Sekuru Nevana, stands accused of engaging in inappropriate relations with a goat. The alleged incident happened on the night of August 11th around 11 PM in the goat pen of Mrs. Easther Gasura, a resident of Sabhuku Museru’s village.
Mrs. Gasura claims she heard her goat crying and upon investigation caught the spirit medium in the act, wrapped in black spiritual cloths. When confronted, Marariromba reportedly admitted to being drunk but also apologized, blaming witchcraft. The accusation came with claims that several goats had mysteriously died, leaving only a handful remaining.
The matter was quickly escalated to Chief Chireya and a council of regional chiefs, including Chief Njelele, Chief Nemangwe, and Chief Sahi. Despite the spirit medium’s absence at the hearing, the chiefs proceeded to judge him in absentia, ordering him to stop leading traditional ceremonies and pay four cattle as a form of cleansing for the community.
Chief Chireya also revealed that the goat involved will be slaughtered and eaten by the elders as part of traditional purification practices. Beyond this shocking allegation, the spirit medium faces criticism for distorting customs and charging fees for services, while also reportedly spending time in bars instead of fulfilling his spiritual duties.
The police have been informed and are conducting an investigation. Assistant Inspector Xolani Dube of the Midlands Province urged patience, stating they will provide updates once the inquiry is complete.
