South Africa secured a convincing 7-wicket win over Zimbabwe in their Twenty20 international tri-series match on Sunday. Rubin Hermann’s impressive debut half-century propelled South Africa to victory.
Rubin Hermann scored 63 off 36 balls, dominating a 106-run partnership with captain Rassie van der Dussen, who finished unbeaten on 52. Zimbabwe were restricted to 144 for 6, despite a solid partnership between Brian Bennett and Ryan Burl. South Africa made a shaky start, losing two early wickets, but Hermann and van der Dussen’s partnership steered them to victory with 16 balls to spare.
Rassie van der Dussen praised his team’s improved performance, highlighting their bowling and Hermann’s batting. “I was really chuffed with the bowling – 144 was never enough,” he said. Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza acknowledged his team’s subpar batting performance, emphasizing the importance of getting bat on ball.
South Africa’s win has set up a final match against New Zealand on Saturday. The two teams will also meet on Tuesday, which could potentially set up a decisive final match. “It’s like a three-match series. Hopefully, we can make it 1-1 on Tuesday and take it in the final,” said van der Dussen.
