A 37-year-old man from Harare, Ross Terrence Leaper, has found himself in hot water after allegedly attacking his neighbors and unleashing a hail of bullets at police officers trying to apprehend him — all sparked by a denied entry into a neighbor’s home. Facing charges including assault, property damage, and failure to secure a firearm, Leaper remains in custody and is set to apply for bail tomorrow.
The bizarre episode unfolded on August 20, 2025, when a heavily intoxicated Leaper reportedly stormed the home of his neighbor, Ashleigh Smith, shouting for entry but was firmly refused. Undeterred and shirtless, Leaper brandished a brick and demanded access, reportedly striking the complainant on the hand and eye before being held back. When security officers took him into custody, he somehow managed to escape and retreated to his own home, where he was found attempting to cut off handcuffs with a grinder — because why not?
Things escalated quickly when Leaper, refusing to go quietly, grabbed a firearm and charged at the security team and police officers. The startled officers retreated, leaving behind a J and P Security Mahindra vehicle, which Leaper then riddled with 11 well-aimed shots: five to the bonnet, three through the windscreen, one through the driver’s window, and two at the rear. The full extent of the damage — and the neighbors’ newfound fear — is still being assessed.
