Self Proclaimed King “Munhumutapa” to Stand Trial Tomorrow.

Tomorrow, the self-proclaimed King Munhumutapa, Timothy Chiminya, will face the music in court. Charged with undermining the President’s authority, Chiminya’s royal aspirations are about to be put to the test.

According to the State, Chiminya’s claim to the throne was courtesy of a spirit medium’s divine appointment. Who needs a royal pedigree when you’ve got a spirit medium on speed dial? With his newfound powers, Chiminya allegedly dethroned and appointed chiefs willy-nilly, much to the chagrin of the legitimate authorities.

In February last year, Chiminya met Chief Seke and informed him that he had been replaced by Masimba Rubatika. Because, you know, who needs a democratically appointed chief when you can have one appointed by a self-proclaimed king? The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works wasn’t amused, and Chiminya’s actions were reported to the authorities.

The prosecution argues that Chiminya’s actions were a direct violation of the Constitution and the Traditional Leaders Act. It seems that the President has the sole authority to appoint chiefs, not some self-proclaimed king with a spirit medium’s blessing. Will Chiminya’s royal ambitions be enough to sway the court, or will the law prevail?

Tomorrow, Chiminya will face Mrs. Winfilda Tiyatara, the Harare magistrate. Will he plead guilty to undermining the President’s authority, or will he claim that his spirit medium’s appointment is legitimate? One thing’s for sure: this trial is going to be a wild ride. Stay tuned for the drama that unfolds!
