Ruwa Businessman Joseph Mutangadura’s Murder Raises Suspicions of Targeted Hit

The murder of prominent Ruwa businessman Joseph “Mutangaz” Mutangadura has sent shockwaves through the community, with many questioning whether the killing was a random robbery or a targeted hit. Mutangadura, 67, was shot dead by seven masked men at his Lisheen Estate farmhouse on August 17.

The attackers, armed with pistols, claw bars, and hammers, overpowered the security guard, tied him up, and demanded a description of Mutangadura before heading straight to the couple’s bedroom. Despite Mutangadura’s offer to lead them to cash at his abattoir, the intruders shot him multiple times in the chest and stomach. His wife, Patience, was rendered unconscious during the attack and is currently hospitalized under police protection .

Investigators have seized Patience’s cellphone for forensic examination, fueling rumors of possible insider involvement. Relatives of the slain businessman insist the precision of the killing points to a planned assassination, highlighting that the gang was not after money but Mutangadura’s life. The attackers left behind valuables, taking only a cellphone worth about US$10 .

Mutangadura and his wife had a rocky marriage marked by allegations of infidelity and deep-seated distrust. Some speculate that her alleged lover might be linked to the murder. The couple had reconciled before his death, but tensions reportedly lingered. Detectives from the CID Homicide Unit are intensifying their manhunt for the seven suspects .

Mutangadura’s death has left the Ruwa community in shock, with many mourning the loss of a prominent entrepreneur who owned butcheries, Lisheen Estate, and the popular Mutangadura Hideout. His funeral was held in Goromonzi last Saturday. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in the investigation .
