A 31-year-old man from Redcliff has been sentenced to prison for indecently assaulting a victim who was sleeping on a sofa in her own home. The Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court heard that the man, who was a tenant in the same property, entered the victim’s section of the house at around 8 PM on November 2.

The court heard that the offender lowered the victim’s underwear while she was asleep, but was caught in the act by the victim’s brother. The offender was found lying on the same sofa as the victim, with his own underwear lowered, and fled the scene after being discovered.

He later returned to the property and apologized to the victim’s brother, saying he “did not know what had gotten into his mind”. The man was arrested by the police and pleaded guilty to the charge of indecent assault.

The court sentenced him to seven months imprisonment, with three months suspended, meaning he will serve an effective four months in prison.
