Police Officer Drags Ex-Wife to Court Over Maintenance

A bizarre court case has unfolded at the Harare Civil Court, where a police officer, Innocent Ndingani, has taken his ex-wife, Memory Mawarire, to court over maintenance. The couple, who were married for 14 years and have two children together, are embroiled in a heated dispute.

Ndingani, who was granted custody of the children, claims that Mawarire is not contributing to their upkeep, despite him being a dutiful father. He alleges that she is not helping with school fees or feeding the children.

However, Mawarire paints a different picture. She claims that she is actively involved in the children’s lives, returning home every weekend to care for them. She also reveals that she buys school uniforms and has been the primary breadwinner, even contributing 80% of the building materials for their house.

The court heard that the couple’s relationship was marked by conflict, with Mawarire accusing Ndingani of being lazy and irresponsible. She also claims that he has been a threat to her house maids, with three having left due to his behavior.

The case highlights the complexities of co-parenting and financial responsibilities after a separation. The court’s decision will have significant implications for the couple and their children.
