Patient Turns Hospital Stay Into a Copper Heist at Sally Mugabe Central

In a plot twist worthy of a dark comedy, a 40-year-old patient at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in Mbare was arrested for allegedly turning his hospital stay into a copper pipe shopping spree. Taona Dzimbo, admitted with a fractured leg, apparently decided that the hospital’s examination lights and fittings were just too tempting to leave alone.

Caught red-handed on October 5, Dzimbo was found dismantling the examination lights to extract copper components. Police later discovered a stash of 45 copper pipe pieces, each about 20 centimeters long , plus an aluminum pipe hidden away in his  hospital locker. It seems the phrase “stealing the spotlight” took on a whole new meaning!

Despite his new side hustle as an amateur copper thief, Dzimbo remains under police guard while continuing to receive medical treatment. One can only hope he sticks to healing his leg and leaves the hospital hardware alone from now on.

Who knew a hospital stay could come with such unexpected “souvenirs”?
