In a bizarre case of mistaken identity, Mark S. Zuckerberg, a US lawyer, has sued Meta, the parent company of Facebook, for repeatedly suspending his account and accusing him of “impersonating a celebrity.” The Indiana bankruptcy attorney claims his account has been disabled five times in eight years, costing him thousands in lost business.
The drama unfolds like a comedy of errors. Zuckerberg paid $11,000 for ads that were mysteriously taken down, like a billboard with a giant blanket over it. Meta eventually reinstated his account, admitting the disablement was an error. “We’re working to prevent this in the future,” they said, in a tone that sounded like a promise to try harder next time they mess up.
Zuckerberg, who’s been practicing law for 38 years, isn’t amused. “It’s not funny,” he says, “when they take my money.” He’s even started a website to track the mix-ups over his name, including the time he was inadvertently sued by the state of Washington for abuse. Who knew being mistaken for a billionaire could be so troublesome?
