A Glen Norah man was allegedly fatally stabbed by his wife in the early hours of Christmas Day following a domestic argument linked to the delayed preparation of a meal, police have confirmed.
The deceased, Levy Mautsa, a kombi driver, died from multiple stab wounds sustained during a violent confrontation that reportedly began late on Christmas Eve.
His wife, whose identity has not been released, is currently on the run, and police have launched a manhunt.
Confirming the incident, Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza said the dispute started after Mautsa became angry that supper had not been prepared on time.
“Indications are that a domestic dispute erupted over the late preparation of food. It is alleged that the deceased assaulted his wife with open hands and damaged her mobile phone,” said Inspector Chakanza.
A neighbour, Blessing Chengeti, reportedly intervened around midnight after the argument escalated and spilled outside their room near his door. His intervention temporarily defused the situation, and the couple returned to their room.
However, the calm was short-lived.
Several hours later, the violence reportedly intensified. Inspector Chakanza said the suspect later contacted a workmate, admitting that she had attacked her husband.
“She allegedly informed the colleague that she had stabbed Mautsa three times using a kitchen knife and asked them to check on him,” he said.
After making the call, the suspect fled the scene.
Police later attended the house and found Mautsa’s body bearing deep stab wounds to the neck, left shoulder and back. A kitchen knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered from the garden outside the residence.
Mautsa’s body was taken to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have appealed to members of the public for information that may assist in locating and arresting the suspect as investigations continue.
