A chilling account of a year-long reign of terror in Guruve was laid bare before the Harare Magistrates Court as suspected serial killer Anymore Zvitsva (33) appeared facing eight counts of murder involving 19 victims, mostly women, alongside two counts of attempted murder and two counts of rape.
Zvitsva appeared before provincial magistrate Vakayi Chikwekwe and was remanded in custody. He was not asked to plead and was advised that only the High Court can hear a bail application due to the gravity of the charges. The matter was postponed to January 19, 2026, for formal indictment. Zvitsva is currently receiving medical treatment at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
Prosecutor Lawrence Gangarahwe outlined a disturbing sequence of violent attacks allegedly committed between March and December 2025 across Guruve, Nyakapupu, Mubaiwa, Zimuna and Bosha villages.
The alleged killings reportedly began in March 2025 at Rangwani Village, where Zvitsva is accused of breaking into Jane Dube’s home, chasing her into a maize field and killing her with an iron rod after she fled.
In April, the court heard that Modester Isaac was raped at knife point while herding cattle in Nyakapupu before being strangled with wire and hanged from a tree.
As the months progressed, a grim pattern emerged. In October, Alice Marangarire was allegedly attacked with a machete and strangled. Weeks later, Elisha Dickens Chikwavarara and Dudzai Mazuvaawanda were attacked while walking to a garden—both later found strangled and hanged.
The State further alleges that on 30 November 2025, Zvitsva broke into a homestead at Farm 31 Nyakapupu and strangled Megina Chizema, Stacey Pulango and Allet Kavhura with a snare wire as they slept. Their bodies were discovered days later.
On 9 December, four family members—Pamela Chipangura, Kudzai Chipangura, Tawanda Jariwa and Tadiwanashe Marasika—were allegedly strangled in their one-roomed house in Zimuna Village. Marasika was reportedly kidnapped, raped on Nyakapupu Mountain, later killed and buried after attempting to escape.
Another survivor, Fortune Mwazha, told police she was strangled unconscious during a robbery at her shop in Zvivindi Business Centre on 13 December, but survived—becoming a key complainant.
The violence allegedly continued on 14 December, when five people were attacked at a Guruve plot, including Tatenda Zvitsva, who was stabbed to death in a kitchen hut.
The final incident outlined occurred on 22 December 2025 in Bosha Village, where Saujati Matora and Shalom Malunga were allegedly raped and strangled to death with a snare wire. Mavis Malunga, who hid under a bed during the attack, survived.
The case has sent shockwaves through Guruve and surrounding communities, with authorities describing it as one of the most disturbing crime sprees in recent years.
