Govt to Roll Out Swipe Machines at All Police Roadblocks Nationwide

In a major push to combat corruption and boost transparency, the government has announced plans to deploy Point-of-Sale (POS) machines at every police roadblock across the country. This groundbreaking initiative aims to modernize the process of paying spot fines and ensure greater accountability among law enforcement officers.

The new system will allow motorists to settle fines instantly using debit or credit cards, eliminating the need for cash transactions that have often been linked to bribery and under-the-table deals. By digitizing payments, authorities hope to create a clear, traceable record of all fines collected, reducing opportunities for misconduct.

Officials say the rollout of POS machines aligns with broader government efforts to leverage technology in improving public service delivery and fighting corruption. “This is a significant step toward transparency and efficiency,” said a government spokesperson. “Motorists will appreciate the convenience of card payments, and the public can have greater confidence in the integrity of our police officers.”

The initiative is expected to be implemented in phases, beginning with high-traffic checkpoints before expanding to all roadblocks nationwide. Training programs for police personnel on using the new technology will accompany the rollout to ensure smooth adoption.

Motorists have welcomed the move, expressing optimism that it will reduce harassment and streamline the fines payment process. “Paying fines has always been a hassle, and sometimes you don’t know where your money ends up,” said one commuter. “With swipe machines, there’s more clarity and less chance for corruption.”
