Former President Robert Mugabe’s Son , Chatunga Causes Havoc in Mazowe

A security guard at an Ultimate Mining concession in Mazowe is battling for his life after being brutally assaulted by, Bellarmine Chatunga son of former President Robert Mugabe, and a group of heavily armed men. The incident occurred on Wednesday around 4 pm when Chatunga led a team into the mining site, accusing the staff of harboring trespassers who were entering his mother’s property

The victims alleged that Chatunga and his group brandished AK-47 assault rifles and accused the mine security of failing to act on breaches. The security guard, Elvis Bvumbwe, was severely beaten, sustaining multiple fractures, including a fractured left ulna bone and severe bruising. Other victims, including a supervisor and two staff members, Chipara and Muchemwa, were also assaulted

The victims were frogmarched into the Mugabe compound, doused with water, and repeatedly beaten with logs and metal rods. Medical reports confirm that the injuries are severe and potentially permanent. The medical bills have already surpassed $2,000, and the staff are traumatized and living in fear.

The case was officially logged at Mazowe Police Station under Report Received Book (RRB) Number 6347367. Despite the severity of the incident, Chatunga reportedly remained defiant at the police station, claiming that if President Mnangagwa heard about his presence, everyone at the station would be fired. He then drove off without being detained.

The Ultimate Mine General Manager, Joel Mushoriwa, expressed sadness over the incident and hopes that the law will take its course. The situation highlights concerns about the rule of law and accountability, especially when individuals claim to be above the law due to their connections.
