Former Legislator in Absurd ‘Mineral Mystery’ Mix-Up

In a twist of bizarre bureaucratic befuddlement, former Norton legislator Temba Mliswa claims he’s been detained at Magunje Police Station due to a wild “personal vendetta” by senior police officers over the Rengwe Conservancy project. Mliswa’s set to appear in court today.

Mliswa says police bigwigs CG Mutamba and Commissioner Nyazema got weirdly personal about the Rengwe Conservancy deal, slapping him with charges of prospecting for minerals sans license. But here’s the kicker: Mliswa had a lease with Hurungwe Rural District Council since 2021, got the Presidency’s blessing in December 2024 for a Sanyati River rehab project to fight land degradation, and even scored a green light from the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) in May 2025.

Despite all the paperwork being copacetic, on August 10, 2025, police swooped in like they were chasing ghosts, halted ops, and grabbed equipment citing “spurious allegations” of illegal mining. Mliswa cries foul, saying it’s all a wacky political plot with authorities handing out wonky permits to rival groups allegedly tied to provincial honchos. Kunengi, yisiphithiphithi  kwa Mliswa.
