Former Highlanders FC head coach Pieter De Jongh has escalated a financial dispute with the Bulawayo-based club by lodging a case with FIFA, citing unpaid prize money and outstanding medical expenses.
De Jongh, who is now based in Kenya, confirmed that the complaint has been officially filed through FIFA’s legal system with the assistance of his lawyer. At the centre of the dispute is his claim to five percent of the club’s prize money earned from domestic competitions such as the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League and the Chibuku Super Cup.
The former coach insists that the entitlement is clearly stated in his contract and should not be affected by the club’s internal prize-sharing arrangements. Highlanders are said to have relied on their long-standing policy, which splits prize money between the club and players, but De Jongh argues that this structure does not apply to him and was never part of his agreement.
He says repeated written requests for payment were unsuccessful, prompting him to hand the matter over to his legal representative, Elvis Wanyami, who has handled similar cases for him in other African leagues. After a formal warning to the club failed to produce a settlement, the matter was taken to FIFA for resolution.
De Jongh is also demanding reimbursement for medical bills incurred in December, shortly before his contract ended. He maintains that he was still officially under contract at the time of his illness, making the club responsible for those costs.
With the case now before FIFA, the outcome will be determined through the football governing body’s legal processes.
